Honoka‘a 3, Kealakehe 2
Honoka‘a girls volleyball won its first match of the season in a thriller Wednesday at Kealakehe High School against the Waveriders. The Dragons won in five competitive sets.
Kealakehe won the first set 25-10, but Honoka‘a bounced back with a 26-24 second-frame win. The ‘Riders responded with a 25-20 win in set No. 3, but the Dragons evened the score once again with a 25-21 win in the fourth set.
In the final interval, Honoka‘a prevailed with a 15-11 fifth-set win.
The Dragons (1-2) will next travel to Waimea to face Kanu at 10 a.m. Saturday on the road. Kealakehe (1-3) will also head to Waimea to play unbeaten Parker at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bulls’ home court.
JV score: Kealakehe wins 2-0 — 25-18, 25-19.
Kohala 3, Ehunui 0
Kohala girls volleyball got back on track with a bounce-back victory over Ehunui on Wednesday at Kona’s Old Airport Gymnasium.
The Cowgirls won in straight sets — 25-4, 25-12 and 25-16. Kohala moved to 2-2 in 2024. Ehunui fell to 1-2.
The Cowgirls will return to action Monday, hosting BIIF DII powerhouse Hawaii Prep Academy at 5 p.m. in Kapa‘au.
The ‘Io will play at 5 p.m. tonight at Konawaena against the Wildcats.
Waiakea 3, CLA 0
Waiakea girls volleyball coasted to another win over Christian Liberty Academy on Wednesday in Hilo.
The Warriors won in consecutive sets in dominant fashion — 25-6, 25-9 and 25-6. They moved to 2-0 on the season. The Canefire fell to 0-5.
Waiakea will travel to Ka Umeke tonight in a road match. First serve is slated for 5 p.m.
CLA will next take the court against Kea‘au tonight at home. Junior varsity will play first at 5 p.m.
Hilo 3, Kea‘au 0
Hilo girls volleyball opened its season on a high note with a straight-sets victory over Kea‘au on Wednesday at home. The Vikings won 25-18, 25-15 and 25-18 in the win.
Hilo (1-0) will next head to Pahoa town tonight to play the Daggers on the road. Junior varsity will start first at 5 p.m.
The Cougars (0-3) are still in search of win No. 1 of 2024. They’ll look to rebound against CLA at 5 p.m. tonight in Kea‘au.
